Ocean friendly “Reef-safe” technology is found in sunscreens that do not contain oxybenzone and octinoxate, two common UV-blocking chemicals, that studies have shown can cause coral bleaching. Avoid sunscreens containing: avobenzone, butylparaben, ecamsule octinoxate, oxybenzone or 4-methylbenzylidine camphor. Choose a physical sunscreen with non-nano zinc oxide or titanium dioxide formulations.
